James Knop’s experience at Cosun Biobased Experts

Hi everyone! I am James Knop and I’m 21 years old. For the past four years I’ve been studying communications at Avans University of Applied Sciences in Breda. I’ve spent the past five months working on my dissertation at Cosun Biobased Experts.

During that time I’ve been researching how to reach potential customers via online platforms. Because of COVID-19 I was advised to work from home. It wasn’t ideal but luckily I got a lot of help from my colleagues at Cosun Biobased Experts. I interviewed Cosun Biobased Experts’ distributors and its potential customers. I also had permission to look into the big data generated by LinkedIn, UL Prospector and Google Analytics.

Besides my research I worked on many small communication projects for Cosun Biobased Experts. In collaboration with my supervisor Olaf Kleine and graphic designer Janneke van den Biggelaar. I worked on narrowcasting messages and LinkedIn posts. In the narrowcasting messages I showed the staff at Cosun innovation center how Cosun Biobased Experts’ products were being used. The aim was to show that Cosun Biobased Experts’ ingredients were already being used in products that were on sale in the supermarket.

I used the LinkedIn posts to introduce potential customers to Cosun Biobased Experts’ products. I could express my creativity in the LinkedIn posts. I really enjoyed working on that. It’s also satisfying to see that Cosun Biobased Experts has already applied some of the communication tools I suggested during my research.

During my internship at Cosun Biobased Experts I learned a lot about myself and about working in a big organisation. COVID-19 meant I wasn’t able to be present at the office as much I would have liked. On the other hand it was good to see that I could always reach out to one of my colleagues if I had any questions.

I would recommend an internship at Cosun Biobased Experts because you enjoy a lot of freedom. What I also liked about Cosun Biobased Experts was that it’s a fairly young organisation in an industry I wasn’t familiar with.  Sustainability is an important topic that will only grow in importance in the years ahead. Cosun Biobased Experts is a ground-breaker in this area. So all in all, I can recommend an internship at Cosun Biobased Experts. It’s s a good investment in your future!

James Knop
